We had a great time making these instruments together! Check out this blog for the instructions! An extension to try is to sing The Itsy Bitsy Spider. Have them wait to use the rainstick until "the rain came down and washed the spider out." I then had the kids taking turns being the rainstick holder. You can do different kinds of "storms." Did the rain drop gently or hard? See if you can try different volumes as you have them sing along with you. Here are the lyrics just in case it hasn't been playing on your kids radio a million times ;)
The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout Down came the rain and washed the spider out Up came the sun and dried up all the rain But the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again

Turn on your favorite music and let your child shake to the beat. See if they can copy your movements. Shake high when the music is loud. Shake low when the music is soft.
Other ideas:
My kids had a ton of fun with this one today.
What you need: -Any kind of plastic container that you can put a lid on (That stays on) -All kinds of things that you find around the house
We even made a game out of seeing if they could guess what item it was while closing their eyes. Make sure that you monitor this activity if you have a child that likes to put everything in their mouth! Also make sure that they don't dump rice everywhere :) |
